2010 was a very special year for us as the RSJ Restaurant celebrated its 30th year. We held a number of special events through the year to mark our 30th birthday.

We have put together a selection of wines ideal for current drinking this spring. The chancellor delivers his 2013 budget on March 20th and this may well increase duty on alcohol – it invariably does!

Gold medal winning Sauvignon from this appellation
near Sancerre made by the hugely talented Jean Tatin.
It is beautifully balanced and most appealing.

This classic Pouilly  from Sébastien Treuillet
has a lovely blackcurrant nose, elegance
and wonderful balance and minerality.

Claude Papin has made a delightful floral, honeyed
dry Chenin full of fruit with a  lovely minerality.
It has a really good length and balance.

is made from 70%Chenin Blanc & 30% Chardonnay
and makes a wonderful aperitif!

Dominique Tessier’s gold medal winning Saumur has
Lovely mouthwatering fruit with good wight and a fresh finish.

2011 Chinon Domaine de la Noblaie                      £10.25                         £9.35
Outstanding organically grown Chinon from top young
vigneron, Jérôme Billard, it is packed with ripe fruit.
It has an attractive nose of violets and alovely balance.

2010 Anjou Gamay ‘Sur Spilite’  Ch. Pierre-Bise               £11.95             £10.95
Claude Papin’s Gamay has a big structure with intense
fruit and a long finish. No Lightweight!

2011 Sancerre Rouge ‘Les Pierris’                            £12.95                         £11.95
Made from 100% Pinot Noir, this is an elegant
attractive and stylish wine from the Champault brothers.

2010 St Nicolas-de-Bourgueil  ‘Les Coutures’        £15.25                         £13.95
Frédéric Mabileau’s superb St Nicolas has had a great following
for a number of years. Made from 40 year old vines,
it is aged in oak for 9 months. This wine is made organically.

Italian Sunday Lunch at RSJ: Sunday 21st April

Our next lunch in 2013 with the passionate Italian cook, prolific food writer and personality, Ursula Ferrigno, is on Sunday 21st April at the RSJ Restaurant. Starting at 1.00pm this event will include a glass of wine on arrival.                                                                    

Sunday 21st April: ‘The Italian Riviera - Liguria – where the land meets the sea’  £32.00

“Needless to say this is a most inspiring stretch of coastline full of the flavours of herbs and sea,”  Ursula Ferrigno.


Ligurian caponata, salad of tomatoes, black olives, anchovy and tuna with mozzarella.  Focaccia slices on the side.

Fresh ravioli with herbs and greens topped with a walnut cream sauce

Stoccafisso – classic Ligurian dried saltfish stewed with vegetables and white wine, pine nuts, olives & dried porcini

Stuffed lettuce leaves simmered in wine

Specially selected artisan cheese of the region

Hazelnut & coffee panna cotta


We have a few places [strictly limited] for anyone who wishes to assist Ursula during the morning, making bread, pasta soup and sauces associated with these lunches.

This will cost each person an additional £30.00 for this cookery tuition.
